This eyepiece is a cut above some other zoom eyepieces on the market. The views are brighter than other more inexpensive zoom eyepieces, however not at bright as a good, single eyepiece. Contrast is also less as compared to using a quality single eyepiece. The field of view is also smaller than most single eyepieces. For very detailed telescopic views this is not the eyepiece that should be picked first. However, for general observing, and the convenience of having multiple magnifications with just a twist of the eyepiece, this eyepiece does a good job.

Description of Orion Premium Zoom Eyepiece

You can pick your power with this eyepiece, and you'll get exceptionally crisp, sharp images. It has a continuously adjustable focal length range from 24mm to 8mm, allowing you to choose the optimal magnification for your viewing subject. The seven-element lens assembly yields comfortably long eye relief of 17mm to 19mm. Apparent field ranges from 40-degrees to 60-degrees. Other features include a rubber eyeguard, knurled rubber grip, and setscrew-retention recess. The 1.25" barrel is threaded for filters. Made in Japan.
